I have decided to close the site in November and December each year. The campsite will be fully open January 1st to October 31st as normal. I apologise for any inconvenience caused to those guests who visit during November and December. However, the facilities and the owner do need an occasional rest!!!

NEW CAMPSITE LICENSE
In order to comply with latest legislation we have recently had to re-apply for our campsite license.
The new license has now been granted and the capacity of the site has been increased to 15 caravans/motorhomes.
LONELY PLANET GUIDE
The world famous Lonely Planet Guide Books have published a new guide to Portugal. Camping Asseiceira has been approved and is now included within the Alentejo/Marvão section. They state: "Readers praise this neat campsite for its organisation and location, in quaint village of Santo António das Areias, located 4km Northeast of Marvão".

RENOVATED SHOWER AND TOILET FACILITIES
The improved facilities are now open, and provide a significant improvement for both the user (the roof doesn't leak!) and for the environment (the water is heated by solar power).

NEW CAT "SQUEAK"
Rescued by some Dutch friends who sadly were unable to keep him, we have a new campsite cat named Squeak. His name is obvious when you meet him.

COMPLIMENTARY FESTIVE DAY LUNCH
Last years lunch was a great success, and so we plan once again to organise a complimentary Festive Lunch on the 27th December, for all those staying at Camping Asseiceira over the festive period. For more information see the Special Activities section on the Activities section.

CLARENCE THE CAT
We have some sad news. Following a short illness, Clarence the very popular campsite cat went missing a couple of weeks ago. Sadly we fear the worst.

CAMPING ASSEICEIRA PRESENTED AN AWARD BY ZOOVER
Zoover, the largest holiday review website in Europe has recently presented Camping Asseiceira with the Zoover Award 2010. It was awarded because "your accomodation is one of the best places to stay in Europe". The Zoover customer rating for Camping Asseiceira is one of the highest awarded to any tourist business in Portugal.
PORTUGUESE MAGAZINE ARTICLE
The well respected Portuguese magazine Visão has listed the area around Marvão, Beirã and Portagem as one of the top 12 areas in Portugal to visit. Camping Asseiceira is located in the middle of these locations, all are within 8kms of the site.

14.09.10 - 01.01.11 SHOWER BLOCK REFURBISHMENT / TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF B&B ACCOMMODATION
The planned shower and toilet block refurbishment will commence on the 14th September. The campsite will remain open during the renovation period, though inevitably as with any major building project, there will be some temporary mess and additional noise during working hours.
The B&B accommodation will close during this period, and the bathroom facilities will be made available for the exclusive use of campers.
We apologise in advance for any temporary inconvenience that this will cause, but we do look forward to the long-term advantages that this project will provide for our guests.

CAMPING ASSEICEIRA - RULES AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION
We have created a document which includes both Campsite Rules and additional important information. This has been completed to comply with Portuguese legal requirements and to try to ensure that our guests have a safe and enjoyable stay.
WEBSITE AND MAP IMPROVEMENTS
We have been busy making improvements to the website, and our maps. The Facilities section of the website has been expanded to include more detail and photographs. The map of the nearby village of Santo António das Areias (see Local Attractions/Santo António das Areias) has been updated and now includes details in both Portuguese and English. As does the revised map of walks (see Activities/Walking). This is much expanded and covers a network of walks to suit all abilities that have been created to introduce guests to the beautiful and varied local landscape.

I was very happy to see an article in MMM the UK's best selling motorhome magazine. A big thank you to Steve Reeve for taking the trouble to write and submit the article, and to MMM for publishing it.

PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE COURSES
We have now completed three courses. Two beginners and last week our first intermediate course. We have had lots of very positive feedback, and look forward to running more. If you have an interest in participating in any future courses, then please contact me.

AWARDS
I am pleased to announce that Camping Asseiceira has recently been presented with two prestigious awards.
The French organisation Routard has awarded us with a Recommendation in their 2009 Guide to Portugal. I am particularly pleased because it describes both the business and myself personally; “En fait l'ambiance ici est cosmopolite. Gary, le sympatique proprio, est anglais et prêt á rendre service. Les chambres doubles sont une bonne affaire, trés bien tenues et mignonnes.” I have always liked the French people :-)
The UK publication Cool Camping has recently launched a new book Cool Camping Europe; which The Sunday Times has called “a publishing sensation". It takes 12 European countries and selects the ten coolest campsites in each country. Camping Asseiceira has been appointed as one of the ten coolest campsites in Portugal.
Now how cool is that!!
