Portalegre (Distance 24kms Time 22 minutes)

A small city with an impressive Renaissance style cathedral. Portalegre is famous for its high quality carpet weaving; there is a museum dedicated to this craft on the Rua da Figueira.

Perched on the city’s highest point is the castle - it had twelve towers and seven gates. One of these remains intact entering the Praça da República.The city offers a wide range of shops from small boutiques to large supermarket chains and a good variety of restaurants.
